Evaluating the state of investigative journalism in Malaysia from practitionners' perspectives

Investigative journalism is not a new area in journalism but its practice around the world vary from one country to another as media practitioners are arguing whether it should be practiced or not. Therefore, this research is trying to find out the state of investigative journalism in Malaysia from media practitioners’ perspective. Using qualitative interview, this research will try to evaluate their understanding on the roles of investigative journalism and barriers in practising it in Malaysia. Eight respondents consist of editors and reporters from four print media organizations were interviewed in this research. This research found that Malaysian media practitioners do understand investigative journalism but they have to adapt their practice into the country’s media environment. Most of them prefer to abide by the rules and regulations set by the government, their organization and even themselves. Consequently, the study showed that they prefer to investigate issues concerning consumer affairs and rarely touch on political issues

CAR TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM

This project explores the potential of implementing fuzzy logic algorithm for traction control system using VHDL. Previously, the project on car traction control was done by simulation using fuzzy logic approach. The Fuzzy Logic Toolbox in MATLAB software is used to create simulation for fuzzy logic system. The challenge of the project is to design the control system using hardware description language for future implementation on hardware using FPGA. Fuzzy logic controller provides optimum control according to the conditions specify. It is useful when the driving condition is uncontrolled. The core programming language which will be used as the hardware description language is VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL). VHDL is used in FPGA - based implementation. The methodology includes designing the fuzzy logic controller, development of the algorithm and codes programming. After that, the following phase includes testing and troubleshooting. Lastly, carry out the documentation. In conclusion, it is possible to develop the algorithm for fuzzy - based car traction control system using VHDL. Personaliti big five dengan prestasi kerja pengurusan sumber manusia

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti hubungan antara personaliti dengan prestasi kerja. Responden kajian adalah seramai 94 orang pekerja di bahagian pengurusan sumber manusia dari 17 buah organisasi di kawasan perindustrian Senai. Kajian personaliti ini diukur berdasarkan lima domain personaliti iaitu Extraversion, Neuroticism, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, dan Openness to Experience dengan menggunakan Perisian Statistical Package for Social Science Version 12 (SPSS) menerusi analisis statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensi. Hasil kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa terdapat hubungan yang signifkan dan positif di antara personaliti dengan prestasi kerja pekerja. Dalam kajian ini, domain personaliti Conscientiousness merupakan personaliti yang paling utama dimiliki oleh pekerja dibahagian sumber manusia

Factors contributing to employees work stress in TNB Kluang / Adibah Ismail

Work stress was generating increasing concern among the public, media, employers and trade union. Workplace health and safety representatives in many countries are seeking solutions to the nature and causes of the problem as well as the legal requirements relating to its prevention and control. According to that, this paper aims to study the ‘Factors Contributing to Employees Work Stress in TNB Kluang’. The independent variables that involved in this study are workload, role conflict and interpersonal relationship at the workplace. For this project paper, this research focused on the employees that have been working at Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Kluan Johor. As 132 questionnaires were distributed to the employees and the data will be analyze by using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 2.0 programs. The variable data that will be used by the researcher is Frequency Distribution, Reliability Analysis, Multiple Regression and Correlations Analysis to answering the three of research objectives in this study. In the end of this paper, the researcher will be discussing about the result of this study and provide some recommendations for the future research

Framing strategic news from the perspective of media organizations in Malaysia

Strategic news is published news with an implied agenda without explaining the truth. Nowadays, most media are more comfortable playing tug of war in their writing than telling the truth because of the news framing process. The process of generating strategic news is done by journalists and editors of a media organization by conducting the franchise process first to enable them to reach the target audience. Framing news is the cause for the reader's shift of understanding of news framed by the newspaper until the community's perception has been successfully changed. This study utilizes a qualitative method; three personality and media experts were interviewed to obtain relevant data regarding media agenda, framing and strategic news. The informants were from media conglomerates in Malaysia – Media Prima, Bernama TV and former Berita Harian Group Editor-in-Chief. The exploration of media practioner perspectives on news writing and framing allowed the researcher to delve into fundamental questions in journalism, specifically in the fragment of journalism ethics. The findings show that the framing of an issue was both deliberate and unintentional. Strategic news is the result of the interconnections between media agenda, ethics and journalism, editor responsibility and news framing, and manipulation by the media to advocate the success of the government’s mission and vision
